Since the introduction of a touchscreen display, the smartphone is getting immensely improved. It’s close to 35 years when IBM did unveil their first touchscreen concept. Passing the time, kept on polishing smartphone’s display. We had seen, Quad HD super AMOLED displays from gigantic smartphone makers & alleges to be working 4k (4096x2160p) display. 2017 has a new trend of bezel less display. The concept of Xiaomi’s Mi Mix edge to edge display was something new. Most of the mobile brands started showcasing their bezel-less smartphones. Though, these smartphones with a high screen to body ratio display has not smacked the popularity yet. But they look futuristic. Those minimal bezel display mobiles don’t fit every pocket (budget I mean). We’d some low budget bezel-less smartphones as well. By the way, this is not the time when we used to consider the design and camera only. 1. Apple iPhone X: Truly Bezel Less

iPhone X is possible the best bezel less display phone in my opinion. The concept of iPhone X Edition was just awesome it was something we had never seen before & neither expected this from Apple. Since they were working on almost the same design every time the bezel less display trend was something new in 2017. To be the best smartphone in the market they have been joining this trend, the bezel-less displays & the dual cameras. These had become the basic need which we expect from every mobile manufacturer on a phone with a good budget. As expected, iPhone X will feature very thin bezel all the way. Those thin bezels not only increases display size without actually getting the smartphone oversized but it looks pretty as well. So in my opinion “X” deserves a top position in the best bezel-less smartphones list.

Somehow, Apple managed to arrange all the required sensor in the front. It would have a little edge display at the top. Probably there would be no button on the front. For the first time, there will be an OLED display in the iPhone which Samsung smartphones are much familiar.

The dual cameras on the rear might be arranged vertically & a led flash in between them. It will come with improved A11 chip expected to be quite faster than the available ones. The headphone jack is still missing. Touch ID or Fingerprint Sensor has been skipped this time, and IRIS scanner has been introduced.

2. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

The further shaving of its predecessor(MI MIX). The sequel of MI Mix is a lot better. The 2 has rounded edges instead of rectangular edges of the MIX. It is smaller than the older MIX but the faster, slimmer, powerful one. It has a 5.99 inches display that rocks 2:1 originally 18:9 aspect ratio.

MIX 2 is powered by Snapdragon 835 processor and has 6GB/8GB of RAM. This phone doesn’t have any way to expand the storage & comes with 64GB/128GB and a limited 256GB variant. The ceramic back adds beauty to the design. The limited 256GB variant comes with the fully ceramic unibody. MI MIX 2 doesn’t have any headphone jack.

Still, there is no dual rear camera on this phone. The fingerprint is mounted on the rear and is quite faster compared to the older mix. The front of the phone consists of around 80% of the display. The front camera is still at the bottom.

An improved display and the downgraded battery is something not to be expected. The MIX 2 packs 3400mAh display. Currently, it is only available in China. As expected, it would cost around Rs 32,000 for the 6GB/64GB variant and Rs 35000 to 37,000 for the 8GB & 128GB combination. However, the limited one will be available for Rs 40,000 with 256GB and beautiful ceramic body in the back.

3. Essential Phone(PH-1)

Andy Rubin, one of the men behind Android development started his smartphone start-up “Essential”. The company just unveiled a bezel less flagship smartphone. The phone features the highest screen to body ratio. It has a whopping 84.9% screen-to-body ratio. PH-1 will go to give head to head to the legendary rivals galaxy s8+ and iPhone X.

By the way, this isn’t the only reason this phone deserves a top spot in the list of bezel-less smartphones. Nevertheless, it is fueled with Overpriced specs you would like.

Latest Snapdragon 835 SoC powers essential Phone PH-1 over cloaked at 2.45GHz with 8 cores. This phone has an aspect ratio of 19:10 with 5.71 inches QHD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels.  It rocks with a 4GB ram and non-expandable 128GB internal memory. Essential Phone has rear-mounted fingerprint scanner & highly polished ceramic panel. It has dual rear camera setup values 13MP main and 13MP telephoto lens with 8MP selfie camera positioned with perfection. It comes with 3040mAh battery that supports fast charging as well.

4. Xiaomi Mi Mix

Though, bezel less trend was started with the concept of Xiaomi Mi Mix. But unfortunately, xiaomi was not first to put the concept into reality because the delay for the new trend was not tolerable by the market. Was it? Being the future of smartphones with trimmed bezels, many companies started showcasing their bezel-less smartphones at the mobile world congress.

Xiaomi MI Mix is a great choice for the ones who need a bezel-free display. It rocks a 6.4 inches nearly bezel-free display. Though it isn’t available with flagship processor this year still SD821 works great. You’ll be getting Mi’s skin MIUI8 based android os version marshmallow 6.0 OTB, but it has planned an upgrade to Nougat 7.1.

The mix has backend support of 6GB DDR4 type RAM with unexpandable but plenty of 256GB physical storage. Getting a better display, obviously, it would be taking more power from the battery. So it has massive 4400mAh battery with quick charge 3.0 support. It has a decent 16MP camera with Electronic Image Stabilization which can capture pretty well snaps even while the phone is in motion. The cost you’re about to pay for the bezel less display is the weirdly placed camera. MI MIX is available in India for about 29,000k & the device seems not to be worth it.

Mi Mix 2 is about to launch soon. If you’re not that much worry of spending your bucks, you can skip mi mix & buy Mix 2 instead.

5. Samsung Galaxy Note 8

Rumoured from past one year note 8 is finally official. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 has got pretty well reputation now. Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is still one of the best android phones. With no such improvements, Note 8 is here. The major addition is the rear dual camera setup. So the Bokeh effect would be improved as it will be performed with the hardware part. It has a big 6.3-inch edge to edge display which looks charming. It has backend highly fine 10nm chips working with 25% less power than the earlier ones, it has Snapdragon 835 Octa-core 64 bit processor.

Well, Samsung’s Note series has Stylus as a trademark which this time has been called an S-pen with some extended features. Don’t know why? but Samsung is settling down to the weird placement of the fingerprint scanner.

Note 8 is somehow, a bit overpriced because of their’s around $150 bump from S8 plus. After all, it has the same processor, and the super AMOLED display as in S8+ may be the dual camera addition does cost $150.

6. Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+

Samsung suddenly brought something new, The Galaxy S8. The design and the infinity display fascinated me a lot. The curved display & the curvier back was something never seen before. The S8 Plus is slightly bigger than S8. If you’re confused between S8 and S8 Plus just think how bigger the display you need. Most of the people prefer a 5.5-inch screen however if you need a larger display just go for S8+.

The curved display feels awesome and comfortable to hold. Beautiful infinity display has corning gorilla glass 5 protection. A camera is something which is above the competition in the segment. The primary camera is a 12MP with f/1.7 with a front 8MP selfie shooter.

7. LG G6

At the G6 launching time, everyone was expecting the specs the LG V30 has. Somehow, Lg has managed with the old components the 821 processor at the quarter first of 2017. Instead of having the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio display. Lg has opted for 18:9 display which provides a bigger experience with the small sized body. LG G6 has 5.7 inches display.

With the very minimal bezels, g6 looks gorgeous protected with corning gorilla glass 5. This device has IP68 certification so it can offend with the accidental meeting with dust and water. I know their’s nothing wrong with the older Snapdragon 821, but it is not much efficient as latest SD835 is.

Coming on the specs, it has 4GB of RAM and with the hybrid expansion slot. Either two nano sim card or a nano sim & an SD card.  LG G6 packs a decent dual rear camera setup often used for the depth effect. It has dual 13MP camera includes a normal primary camera and a wide angle lens. The wide angle results are huge and can capture more natural colours and details.

8. Nubia Z17

Haven’t enough bucks to hands over flagship, nevertheless buy Nubia Z11. Z11 features truly bezel-free display both sides & yet it’s in the budget. High end dual rear camera setup is the key point with the powerful flagship processor. The company has its focus on the bezel less design and a DSLR like a camera within the affordable range.

Nubia Z17 packs Snapdragon 835 processor and comes with huge 6GB/8GB of RAM. Z17 rocks with dual 23MP + 12MP rear camera setup which gives you a DSLR like a feel. The rear setup includes a 23 megapixels main camera and a 12-megapixel wide angle sensor. The 12MP produces great portrait effect and 2x lossless zoom.

With the 16MP front-facing shooter, you can capture pretty selfies. The front camera has an f/2.0 aperture. Its powerful processor with not so well display and sufficient 3200mAh battery can last more than a day. Its fingerprint sensor is mounted in the rear.

Nubia Z17 comes with non-expandable storage. So better you get the 128GB variant instead of 64GB one. Neither it has 3.5mm audio jack. Don’t know why manufacturers are eating up the headphone jack. Still, ZTE Nubia Z17 offers great specs at affordable price. It costs around Rs 26K for the 6GB+64GB variant & 30K for 8GB+128GB.

9. LG V30

Since the launch of V10, LG’s V-series has gained a reputation with every device coming to reality. LG V30 features very thin bezels just like Galaxy S8/S8+. Though LG has not been playing that good in India they have a good impression on the international market. Smartphones from LG yet in budget range gives head-head to flagships. LG has been following up their traditional rear camera arrangement & overall design followed up by LG’s G series.

This time LG has skipped that not so useful secondary display. It has an OLED display instead of LED & it works with Google Daydream Virtual Reality as well. The custom skin on V30 is quite close to the stock one & looks not so bulky.

There’s a lot of improvement in the Sound, Display & Camera section. As V30 is with 2017’s flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, so it might have a huge price cut near Jan-Feb of 2018. V30 has 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC which offers far better sound quality than anyone else. It has a dual rear camera, includes a 16MP primary & 16MP wide angle sensor. Its primary camera does have an f/1.6 aperture which let it take capture more light while taking photographs & resulting in magnificent low-light snaps. V30’s 16MP sensor also produces decent bokeh effect. Just like OnePlus 5 ‘s pro mode it too has a manual mode which let the user customize every single detail as they needed.

10. Doogee Mix: Budget Bezel Less Smartphone

Never even dreamt of having a bezel less smartphone. Overpriced flagship may not be a piece of cake for you.
Umm.. time had passed because we’ve never heard a bezel-free smartphone at this price. Did you? In the quarter fourth past year, a smartphone has appeared with concept same as xiaomi did with the mix (probably younger brother of Mi’s Mix)! Doogee Mix features trimmed three-way bezels. This is the most affordable yet best bezel less phone you can buy right now. But every smartphone has negative sides as well. However, the hardware part would be lagging comparing the top rivals within the same price. The trimmed bezels empower the Doogee mix’s design part.

What I didn’t like about this phone is the weirdly placed front camera(same as in mix). Maybe pushing the top bezels lead to such an arrangement. Every time taking a selfie you need to flip the smartphone upside down which looks quite silly. But Andy Rubin’s Essential Phone has great camera placement. Nevertheless, it has dual rear camera 16MP +8MP which produces bokeh effect as iPhone 7 Plus or OnePlus 5 do but the result was not as expected. It has 3380mAh battery enough to last the whole day but doesn’t have fast charge support.

Overall Doogee Mix is great on the spec sheet, but you may be thinking how it has just $160(approx. 10,000 INR) price tag. Let me clear it has a just 720p display which should be Full HD at least by the way it has a super AMOLED display. But still, you are getting value for the money spent. Otherwise, bezel less display at just a hundred bucks was a dream only.

The bezel less or edge to edge display in phones is just the beginning right now. Further, in the future, we might be holding a glass screen only. The Apple iPhone X bezel less design fascinated me a lot with the proper arrangement of all the sensors, but it still lacks lots of features missing.
