Asus Zenfone 8 smartphone to launch in India as Asus 8z

Asus ZenFone 8 series was launched in the global market on May 12. Under the series, the Taiwanese company has introduced two devices: the ZenFone 8 and the ZenFone 8 Flip. Both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 5G chipset.

Recently, Asus India Business head Dinesh Sharma has confirmed the arrival of the ZenFone 8 series in the Indian market. However, he said that due to the COVID-19 second wave in the country, the launch has been delayed, and it will be launched once the “current situation improves.” So, we currently do not have the exact India launch date.

However, the Asus 8z moniker with model number Asus_I006D/ZS590KS has been spotted on Google Play’s supported devices list. We already know that the Asus Zenfone 8 carries the ZS590KS model. So, it is clear that the Asus Zenfone 8 will arrive in India as the Asus 8z. In addition, the Asus ZenFone 8 Flip may come into the Indian market with the Asus 8z Flip.

In 2019, the Delhi High Court ordered that Asus couldn’t use the Zenfone name in India. The trademark ZEN belongs to Telecare Network. So, to comply with the order, Asus launched the Zenfone 6 in India without the Zenfone moniker under the short name Asus 6z. This year, Zenfone 8 will also be rebranded as Asus 8z in India following a trademark dispute.

Regarding the recently launched Zenfone 8, the handset sports a 5.9-inch Full HD+ AMOLED HDR 10+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch rate, and 1100 nits brightness. It has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Protection. Under the hood, the phone comes with a Snapdragon 888 5nm Mobile Platform that has the most powerful Adreno 660 GPU. The device boots Android 11 OS with ZenUI 8 custom ROM on top of it. For photography, the ZenFone 8 has a dual-camera module with a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. The phone draws power from its 4000 mAh battery that supports up to 30W fast charging. It comes in Obsidian Black and Horizon Silver colors.
