Update 17/08/2020: Asus Zenfone 7 Series will announce on August 26 at 2 PM in Taiwan. Earlier, we confirmed through benchmark source codes that Zenfone 7 and alleged Zenfone 7 Pro will pack Snapdragon 865 and 865+ respectively. Now, we have more evidence that there will be two SoC versions of Zenfone 7 (model: ZS670KS).
- Snapdragon 865 coupled with 6GB+128GB (There might be different memory configuration).
- Snapdragon 865+ coupled with 8GB+256GB (There might be different memory configuration).
18/07/2020: Original story follows…
According to the Taiwanese news outlet TNN Today, Asus is planning to launch Asus Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro. Recently, an unknown Asus device with the codename “Asus ZF” surfaced on Geekbench. As per GSMArena, Asus ZF could be the upcoming Asus Zenfone 7 as “ZF” sounds like “Zenfone”.
Now, digging through Asus ZF’s benchmark kernel source codes, we found out Asus ZF has two SoC versions one with Snapdragon 865 and another one with Snapdragon 865+. So, the former could be called Zenfone 7 while the latter will probably be known as Zenfone 7 Pro.
Asus ZF’s CPU has 1+3+4 arrangement but with different clock speed for the prime core (See Cluster 3 Description). The prime core is assigned to run at 2.84GHz or 3.09GHz for high-performance. We know 2.84 GHz is the maximum CPU clock speed of Snapdragon 865 and for Snapdragon 865+ maximum CPU clock speed is 3.1GHz(~3.09GHz). We can also see the Motherboard as “Kona” and GPU as “Adreno 650”. So, we can conclude that Asus Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro may arrive with Snapdragon 865 and 865+ SoC respectively.
Back in February, Qualcomm had confirmed that the Asus Zenfone 7 would pack Snapdragon 865 chipset. However, it was unclear whether the alleged Zenfone 7 Pro would feature the same chipset. Now, we know the processor name of its Pro Variant as Snapdragon 865+.
Furthermore, On July 21, two unknown Asus models ZS670KS and ZS671KS have received certification from the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). We believe ZS670KS and ZS671KS are the model numbers of Zenfone 7 and Zenfone 7 Pro respectively. Other than the model numbers, not much else is tipped through EEC listing. However, this does hint that Zenfone 7 lineup could launch in Europe soon.
Additionally, Zenfone 7 lineup models ZS670KS and ZS671KS have bagged certification from the Bluetooth SIG authority. The listing only reveals that the devices of Zenfone 7 family will carry support for Bluetooth 5.1.
Talking about rest of the specs of the Zenfone 7 lineup, both phones will likely pack 6.7-inch Full HD+ display. We may see Zenfone 6’s flip camera design, but with an additional lens. The camera units may include a 64-megapixel main camera (wide), 16-megapixel secondary camera (ultrawide) and ToF 3D depth-sensing camera.
The two devices are expected to be backed by a huge 5000 mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. They will likely be available in Black and White colour options. Possible memory variants of Zenfone 7 are 6GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB and 8GB+512GB and for Zenfone 7 Pro we may see 8GB+256GB, 12GB+512GB and 16GB+512GB configuration.
