ASUS Zenfone 5 X00PD Official Render Leaked Ahead of Launch

Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer ASUS launched its Zenfone 5 smartphone in 2014 when smartphones used to run Android Jelly Bean. It was a mid-range offering powered by an Intel processor and a PowerVR GPU. There hasn’t been a Zenfone 5 smartphone since 2014, but it will return this year.

This claim is backed by several smartphone images and some of its specifications. According to Winfuture, their source is a manufacturer’s manual listing the device with model number ASUS X00PD. Also, the company has been sending out press invites with the tag “Back to 5,” which hints at the return of the Zenfone 5.

The smartphone images reveal that the device bears the series’ signature curves and features a unibody design with rounded corners and exposed antenna lines. A fingerprint scanner is added to the smartphone’s rear, which is a big change. As per the report, the ASUS Zenfone 5 X00PD sports a 5.7-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The bezels are smaller, which is one of the reasons for the placement of the fingerprint scanner at the rear. The top bezel includes the regular arrangement of a notification LED, camera, sensors, and earpiece. It is speculated that the new Zenfone 5 will be powered by an Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 clocked at 1.4 GHz coupled with at least 3 GB RAM and will run Android 8.0 Oreo.

Another big change in the smartphone is the design of the dual cameras in the rear. The Zenfone 5 came with a horizontal arrangement in the top left corner. Still, the new design places the dual cameras vertically, similar to the iPhone X. The LED flash is placed on the camera setup. The Power button and volume rocker are on the right side, while the left holds the SIM tray. Also, the device will include a micro-USB port at the bottom, speaker grills, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack at the top.

From the timing and the invitation, the new Zenfone 5 series will be unveiled on 27 February at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018. This is quite early compared to last year’s Zenfone 4 series, launched much later in Q3 2017. Currently, there is no other information regarding the new Zenfone 5 series.
