Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer ASUS today launched the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Zenfone 4 Pro smartphone which was launched back in August last year. The latest update is rolling out in OTA (Over the air update) form. The entire Zenfone 4 series which ran Android Nougat was supposed to get the Oreo update in the second half of 2018. The company has already launched the update for some of its handsets earlier.
ASUS confirmed this officially through the ASUS ZenTalk forums and said that it might take almost a week to reach all the ZenFone 4 Pro (ZS551KL) models available globally. You will get a push notification when it reaches you, and if it doesn’t, you can check it manually by going to Settings > About > System Update. However, users are requested to back up their data before installing to prevent any data loss.
This new update contains the version number V15.0410.1802.34 and includes the regular Oreo features like include Picture-in-picture (Pip) mode, Notification dot, Smart Autofill, new redesigned Quick Settings menu, faster boot time, new emojis, adaptive icons and easier installation for unknown apps. Along with this, we get improvement in power consumption, new ‘long screenshot’ function, better UI. The changelog also mentions the update replaces the Cast function with PlayTo and a new launcher with abilities like swipe up to all apps. This update will also include the latest security patch.
ASUS is making progress on updating the entire Zenfone 3 and 4 line-ups to Android Oreo. The Zenfone 4 got the Oreo update in December followed by the Zenfone 3 in January. Still, the company has a few models left to update before the company’s deadline “by the second half of 2018”.
The ASUS ZenFone 4 Pro is currently priced at Rs 38,000 in India.
