Asus Zenfone 3 ZE520KL/ ZE552KL Gets Android 8.0 Oreo Update

The new Oreo update will bring new features but will decrease the available internal space in the smartphone

A few days ago, Asus released the Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Zenfone 4 ZE520KL and now the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has rollout the Oreo 8.0 update for its two smartphones, the Zenfone 3 ZE520KL, and the Zenfone 3 ZE552KL.

The Zenfone 3 was launched in May 2016 with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a later Android Nougat update. This new Oreo update will be its second major update. After the Zenfone 3 ZE520KL and the Zenfone ZE552KL update, the company aims to give the Oreo update to all other Zenfone 3 models.

As per posts (Post 1/ Post 2) on the company’s official forums, the Android 8.0 Oreo rollout for the two smartphones started earlier today. The update will be first available in their country Taiwan where they claim will take at least a week to reach all Taiwanese customers. After that, the update will be available in other countries as well.

The update is available as OTA (over the air) and will consume significant memory being a major OS update. The company itself warns that the available internal storage on the phone will be decreased after the update. So users are advised to back up their data to prevent any data mishaps and at least keep 1.5 GB of free space before updating.  If the user doesn’t want to wait for the update notification, they can check by heading over to Settings> About > System Update to manually get the update.

The details of all the changes in the update are currently not available at the moment, but from the reports, the smartphone will be getting an upgraded launcher with swipe-up to all Apps function. The UI is improved and previous apps like Minimove, Photo Collage and Do it later apps are removed. The update, of course, includes the official Oreo goodies like the picture-in-picture support, notification dots, new emojis, autofill passwords and faster boot times. This update will also bring the latest security patch to both smartphones.
