ASUS ROG Gaming Smartphone to Launch on June 4 at Computex 2018

A buzz is forming around ASUS’ upcoming Republic of Gamers (ROG) Android gaming smartphone. This is a direct response to last year’s Razer gaming smartphone, ZTE Nubia Red Magic and the Xiaomi Black Shark launched this year in April. ASUS hinted that such a device is in development in April, and now it is officially announcing that the smartphone will be launched in Computex. This is perfect timing with Fortnite coming to Android this summer.

ASUS teased an image on their official Twitter handle showing a cleverly shadowed device with the words “Coming Soon” written over it. The company adds, “Introducing a new member to the ROG family. Don’t miss the live stream for the big reveal! #ROG #ForThoseWhoDare #Computex2018” The image reveals the date to be June 4, just one day before the Computex 2018 event. The image clearly shows a smartphone attached to a gaming controller dock, which will give more freedom while playing advanced games. Interestingly, the Xiaomi Black Shark was also launched with a controller dock.

The half-revealed image shows sharp triangular edges on the smartphone, which may be due to easy grip on playing games. There is not much information on the smartphone until it is speculated that it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with at least 6GB or 8GB of RAM. ASUS may also opt for a special display like the Razer phone, which has a 120 Hz Sharp IGZO panel. The smartphone will likely run Android 8.1 Oreo with a Gaming theme on top of it and be backed by a good battery, which is one of the important aspects of a gaming phone.

We will cover more about the ASUS ROG smartphone when it officially launches at the Computex 2018 event.
