The new smartphones take on the Apple iPhone X, giving almost same specs at half the price
Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer Asus unveiled its 2018 flagship smartphone of the year, the Zenfone 5Z at the MWC 2018 event at Barcelona, Spain along with two other less powerful variants, the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite. All the three smartphones bear a striking resemblance to the Apple iPhone X containing even the top notch. So if you love the iPhone X and can’t buy one, you know what to wait for.
Speaking of the design, Marcel Campos, ASUS global head of marketing explains
“Some people will say its copying Apple but we cannot get away from what users want. You have to follow the trends”.
The Asus Zenfone 5Z boasts a completely new design compared to its previous generations. It sports a 6.2-inch display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of FullHD+ (2560 x1440 pixels), which makes it bigger even than the Samsung Galaxy S9+. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 coupled with 8 GB RAM and 256 GB internal storage.
It features a dual camera setup on the rear consisting of a 12 MP Sony IMX 363 primary rear camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture and a secondary camera sensor of 120-degree wide angle lens and f/2.2 aperture. The front offers an 8 MP camera sensor with f/2.0 aperture for selfies and video calling. The smartphone runs on company’s own ZENUI 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a 3300 mAh battery with ASUS BoostMaster and AI charging tech support.
The device carries a fingerprint sensor at the rear and comes with Face Unlock technology. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC and GPS. Additional features include Dual SIM support, dual 5-magnet speakers. The device is available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour variants.
Coming to the ASUS Zenfone 5 specifications, it almost features the same specs as the 5Z except for the processor, RAM and internal storage. Under the hood, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with 4 or 6 GB RAM coupled with 64 GB internal storage.
As for the last Zenfone 5 Lite smartphone, it is the least powerful of the three. It sports a slightly smaller 6 inch with a resolution of FullHD+ (2560 x1440 pixels) but with the lesser screen-to-body ratio. It also skips the top notch. The device will be available with two processors- Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC and Snapdragon 630 SoC. Similarly there are two memory variants: 3 GB RAM + 32 GB internal storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB internal storage.
The Lite carries dual camera setup at the back with a primary camera sensor of f/2.2 aperture and a secondary camera of 80-degree FOV. The front also offers dual cameras of 20 MP Sony IMX376 sensor and an 8 MP camera sensor with 120-degree wide angle lens. The smartphone runs on company’s own ZENUI 5.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo and is backed by a 3300 mAh battery.
Though the company hasn’t released an official word on the price, the smartphones will be available at half the price of Apple iPhone X. As per speculation, the Zenfone 5Z will come with a price tag of 499$ (Rs 32,500 approx). The price of the remaining two is still a mystery. Its confirmed that at least two smartphones would be launched to the Indian market; however, no exact date is confirmed.
