Apple has released iOS 27 beta 4 to developers, continuing its preview cycle ahead of a broader public rollout later this year. The update arrives with build number 23G71 and is now available through the standard developer beta channel.
The latest beta follows Apple’s initial iOS 27 debut at WWDC, where the company positioned the update around Siri’s AI overhaul, Apple Intelligence features, and refinements to its Liquid Glass design language. Beta 4 doesn’t introduce sweeping changes, but it adds visible polish to some of the platform’s headline features.
Siri refinements take center stage
One of the more noticeable tweaks in iOS 27 beta 4 is a redesigned splash screen when invoking Siri. The updated visual appears when triggering the assistant from the Dynamic Island or via a swipe gesture on the Home screen, signaling Apple’s continued focus on making Siri interactions feel more modern and responsive.
Voice improvements are also part of this release. Two Siri voices now support enhanced pacing and expressivity, aligning with Apple’s push toward more natural speech output. However, five legacy voices still display these controls as “coming soon,” suggesting the rollout is incomplete and likely to expand in future builds.
The update also addresses a bug introduced in beta 3 that affected the depth effect in wallpapers. While the issue had drawn some attention among testers, its removal suggests Apple is tightening visual consistency as development progresses.
Stability improvements over new features
Unlike earlier iOS 27 betas that introduced broader changes, beta 4 leans more toward refinement than expansion. That’s typical at this stage of the cycle, where Apple shifts from adding features to stabilizing existing ones.
Developers can install the update by navigating to Settings> General> Software Update. The iOS 27 Developer Beta option appears under Beta Updates for enrolled devices.
Feature availability is still tied to hardware
iOS 27 supports devices from the iPhone 11 series onward, including the second-generation iPhone SE and newer models. But not all features are universal.
Siri AI and other Apple Intelligence capabilities require more recent hardware, limiting the full experience to newer iPhones. This split mirrors Apple’s recent strategy of tying advanced on-device AI features to newer chipsets, rather than backporting them broadly.
That distinction could shape how users perceive the update, especially those on older supported devices who may receive fewer headline features despite installing the same version of iOS.
Looking ahead to the public release
The final version of iOS 27 is likely to arrive in September alongside the next iPhone lineup. By then, features like Siri’s expanded voice controls and Apple Intelligence integrations should be more complete.
The bigger question is how much of iOS 27’s AI push will feel essential rather than optional—and whether the most meaningful changes will remain tied to Apple’s newest hardware.
