5G Phones Under 15000 in India: Qualcomm to Bring Affordable Price Point

Snapdragon 690 will bring 5G to low-cost smartphones

Right now, many 5G phones are available in the market. All devices are fall either premium segment or premium mid-range segment. Now, it looks soon affordable 5G devices will arrive in the market. This is because of recently announced Snapdragon 690 5G chipset. Snapdragon 600 series is known for its affordability. As Snapdragon 690 is part of the 6-series family of chipsets we can expect 5G phones under 15000 INR. Yes, you heard it right! OEMs including Nokia, LG and Motorola have said that future 5G devices will be available at an even more affordable price.

In India, telecommunications companies are still struggling to bring 5G technology. India isn’t ready but smartphone makers are already launching 5G phones. We have seen Realme X50 Pro 5G and iQOO 3 5G in India under the premium segment. But, don’t rush to buy a 5G device in India as there’s no 5G network yet. Realme Q2i 5G

Realme Q2i 5G is the most affordable Realme 5G device in Q2 series. It packs MediaTek Dimensity 720 processor which is coupled with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. We get 6.52-inch HD+ 20:9 LCD mini-drop display with 1600 x 720 pixels resolution. For optics, it has 13MP rear camera unit with f/2.2 aperture along with 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensor. For selfies, it sports 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture. It features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor to unlock the device quickly. A huge 5000 mAh (typical) battery is paired with the phone. The Q2i 5G is available in China with a price tag of CNY 998, which is roughly Rs 11,000 in India. So, we can expect it will be available in India under 15000 rupees.

The Realme Q2 5G features a 6.5-inch 1080p (2400 × 1080 pixels) LCD panel with 120Hz refresh rate. It is powered by Octa-Core MediaTek Dimensity 800U (MT6873V) 7nm chipset. It runs Android 10-based Realme UI skin. We get upto 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The battery capacity is a 5000 mAh (supports 30W fast charging). The device sports 48MP rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, 8MP 119° ultra-wide-angle sensor and 2MP 4cm macro sensor. The Q2 5G comes in at a price of CNY 1,299 (approximately Rs 14,100) for the base model. It should be priced under Rs 15000 in India.

Redmi 10X 5G

If we talk about “5G mobile phone under 15000 segments” then there is not a single Redmi 5G device available right now. However, we can expect by early 2021 we will get a wide range of cheap 5G smartphones. At present, In China, Dimensity 820 powered Redmi 10X 5G with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage costs 1599 Yuan (approx. Rs 16,999). So, if Xiaomi announces Redmi 10X 5G in the Indian market then it may cost below 15000 rupees.

These OEMs will likely bring affordable 5G phones by early 2021

In India, both Redmi and Realme brand offer smartphones based on Qualcomm’s 600 series SoC at reasonably priced. To recall, Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5 devices are powered by Snapdragon 665 chipset. They are priced below Rs 10000. In China, we will likely see Snapdragon 690 powered Redmi and Realme devices below 1399 yuan (Rs 15000 approximately) in the second half of this year.

Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer at HMD Global has also tweeted that Nokia is gearing up to launch a more affordable 5G smartphone. It will be powered by the Snapdragon 690 5G SoC from Qualcomm.

Dr In-Kyung Kim, senior vice president, 5G and network technology and strategy at LG Electronics confirmed that they will also use Snapdragon 690 Mobile Platform on their device to bring 5G technology to the masses at lower-priced.

Sergio Buniac, president, Motorola Mobility said that they will expand 5G portfolio and will rely on the new Snapdragon 690 processor to continue to do it.
