Idea Cellular recently stated that they wouldn’t be shutting their 3G services down anytime soon. Even their biggest competitor in the telecom network Bharti Airtel has revealed that they would be shutting down their 3G services in the coming 3-4 years. Mr Himangshu Kapadia, who is the managing director for Idea recently said that 3G technology provides voice services for a majority of their subscribers in some remote regions. So, shutting down 3G services would make things harder for these Idea users.
Economic times also reported about the Rs 179 plan of Idea cellular. The report said that the Rs 179 plan has been getting a lot of unknown attention in the country. The Rs 179 plan offers unlimited voice call along with 1GB data. The plan mainly focuses on voice services and a few data services. Idea plans to increase the outgoing call percentage overall, and try to compensate for the Rs 300 crore EBITDA loss. The EBDITA loss was a result of a decline in IUC.
The Rs 179 plan will gain the interest of all 2G and 3G subscribers of Idea cellular. Brokerage PhiilipCapital also said that there would be a lot 2G and 3G customers switching or subscribing to unlimited voice call plans. This will affect the Idea cellular network’s per capita income as a whole.
Idea also reported that it would soon settle 4G agreements with Vodafone India. The 4G ICR agreements will result in additional 4G coverage of both Idea Cellular and Vodafone India in 5,000 towns and nearby villages. Idea cellular has already come to an infrastructure agreement with Vodafone India to reduce the overall per capita expenditure.
Idea is prioritising in proving 4G services in the spectrum of 2300 MHz and 2500 Mhz in many of its markets. Good news for the active Idea users, as the company plans to provide 4G VoLTE services. As per some reports, VoLTE for Idea will come in effect from the early months of 2018. VoLTE services will help in reducing the plan rates to a significant amount. Also, it will make the voice calls clearer than before.
