Xiaomi Mi 5X Special Edition Announced; Sale Debuts on November 1

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi was surprised by the sudden announcement of the Xiaomi Mi 5X Special edition in China. The new device comes in a red back and a black color front. The device is a particular version of the Mi 5X smartphone, launched in August, but they both will have the same features. Combined with the special edition, we have four color options: gold, black, and rose gold. The device is sleek, measuring only 7.3 mm, and weighs only 165 grams.

The Xiaomi Mi 5X Red Special edition features a 5.5-inch display with full HD (1920 × 1080) pixels resolution and an LTPS curved glass display with a brightness of up to 450 nits. Under the hood, we will find an octa-core 2 GHz 64-bit Snapdragon 625 chipset and an Adreno 506 GPU in the graphics department. Storage department includes 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 128 GB with a micro SD card.

In the optics department, the Xiaomi Mi 5X Special Edition sports dual cameras on the rear, similar to the regular Xiaomi Mi 5X. The dual cameras include a 12 MP primary wide-angle with a 1.25-micron pixel and f/2.2 aperture sensor and a 12 MP telephoto with a 1-micron pixel sensor. They have 2x optical zoom and allow slow motion video recording at 120 fps and 4K recording at 30 fps. Camera modes like the Portrait mode bokeh effects (have to be), HDR, continuous shooting mode, and low light photography are available. It sports a 5 MP camera on the front with real-time beautification mode. The rear panel also features the fingerprint sensor and the LED flash (dual tone).

The Xiaomi Mi 5X runs on MIUI 9 on top of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The device is backed by a 3080mAh battery. The device also features antenna lines on the top and bottom of the back cover. On the connectivity front, the device offers 4G VoLTE support, Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi (802.11 b/g/n), GPS with AGS/ GLONASS, a 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type- C. Sensors on the phone include an accelerometer, infrared, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, proximity, and electronic compass.

Since its inception, the Xiaomi 5X is only available in China. We only got the Xiaomi Mi A1, an Android One device. Based on this, we can expect the device to not launch beyond the Chinese market. It is priced at 1,499 yuan (Rs 14,282 approx). The device is up for pre-registration on online and offline platforms and will be available from November 1.
