Chinese smartphone maker Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has completed its third year in India, and in its anniversary it launched the Honor 9i which is the first device by the company to have four cameras. With stunning looks and powerful specifications, this smartphone has the capability to dominate the Rs 15,000 – Rs 20,000 price segment.
Available in three variants: Platinum Gold, Navy Blue, and Midnight Black; the Honor 9i is the same rebranded phone launched in China and Malaysia by the name Huawei Maimang 6 and Huawei Nova 2i. Honor has been aggressively expanding their portfolio by launching devices like Honor 8 Pro with incredible specs.
Outside it sports a 5.9 inch Full View display with an aspect ratio of 18.9. The Honor 9i adopts a screen resolution of 2160 X 1080 pixels (FHD+). With its sharp display, minimal bezels and classy metallic body the device is sure to turn heads. Though there is nothing innovative, it does have a unique design which feels elegant and premium. The rounded corners, curved edges and 2.5D glass on the front also helps. Inside the hood, there is a Krin 659 SoC (octa-core) with 4 GB of RAM. It offers 64GB of inbuilt storage (expandable to 128GB).
Let’s talk about the most attractive and unique feature of the Honor 9i – the four cameras. On the back, it features a (16MP + 2MP) while there is a (13MP + 2MP) camera set up on the front for selfies and video calling. Honor also included some ‘smart’ features as well. Now you can click photos or selfies just by a gesture. A new feature called ‘smart selfie toning flash’ automatically adjusts the brightness level of the front flash according to the environment. Though it’s not perfected like the Apple iPhone 8, it performs decently. The rear cameras perform clear and sharp images, but the colours look a bit over saturated.
The device runs EMUI 5.1 running on top of Android Nougat (7.0). Honor has added some extra features like gesture-based shortcuts like tapping twice with two fingers for screen recording, tapping once with one finger for screenshot and drawing an ‘S ’for a web page screenshot.Honor has also added the ‘Huawei Histen audio system’ from their labs, which enhances sound output with algorithms along with Bluetooth apt X support. The device is powered by a 3340mAh battery which is capable of delivering 9 hours of video playback, 7 hours of gaming and up to 20 hours of talk time.
The Chinese manufacturer has already crossed Apple in sales globally and is at the second spot after Samsung. But the company does not want to open retail stores in the country. So the Honor 9i will be exclusively available on Flipkart and will go on sale from October 14 at Rs 17,999 competing against the likes of Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Moto G5S Plus. Along with that Honor also launched two new tablets called the Mediapad T3 and Mediapad T3 10 along with a 10000 mAh Quick Charge Power Bank at Rs 2.399. With these launches Honor targets to capture 10% of the Indian market.
